  • Our spinout company Emergence Ecotech provides flash flaming as a commercial service using its Seed Flamer technology patented in Australia and the USA and patent pending in Canada. The Seed Flamer works by repeatedly exposing seeds to a flame for short periods under a strict set of species-specific conditions. Proven benefits include:

    • Precision removal of unwanted appendages (hairs, awns, lobes)

    • Improved flow properties enabling mechanical seed delivery

    • Increased bulk density (decreased storage volume)

    • No decrease in germination potential, with some species showing benefits

    To date Flash Flaming has been proven to work on over 20 restoration target species native to the Pilbara and Southwest regions of Western Australia.

  • With strong backgrounds in mechanical engineering and machine design coupled with industry experience, CEI:AgER engineers are particularly skilled in devising elegant machine design solutions for agriculture, ecological restoration, and related industries and providing expert design assessments of and providing design improvements for existing machines.

To date, CEI:AgER, in collaboration with our spinout company Emergence Ecotech, has flamed thousands of kilograms of native seeds provided to industry for improved seed distribution and rehabilitation outcomes.

Past Projects: Flash Flaming

Flaming outcomes: seed morphology before and after flaming resulting in reductions in batch volume and mass, and improvements to flow characteristics

Seed Flaming Drum: Flaming exposes seeds to high heat for short bursts, allowing removal of surface awns and hairs without damaging the seed contents.
