CEI:AgER Alumnus Visit

Justin Kruger, current Stanford PhD candidate and former UWA double degree (Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Science) graduate, recently visited the CEI:AgER team at Shenton Park to update the team on his current work.

Justin and the CEI:AgER Team. Left to Right: Dr Michael Walsh (Agriculture Lead), Mr Justin Kruger, Dr Andrew Guzzomi (Director), Ms Isobel Sewell (Research Officer), Ms Hannah Demerise (Centre Manager / PhD Candidate), Dr Monte Masarei (Research Fellow), Dr Carlo Peressini (Research Fellow), Mr James Boyle (Consultant Engineer).

Justin’s current PhD research work at Stanford, involves leading the Starling Formation-Flying Optical Experiment (StarFOX). This experiement forms part of NASA Starling, which is a swarm technology demonstration. In particular, Justin is interested in angles-only ‘Swarm Satellite’ or ‘Optical Swarm’ navigation.

Justin’s previous research at UWA during his mechatronics engineering honours project focused on swarm robotics for agricultural applications under the supervision of Dr Guzzomi and Dr Walsh. In particular, the work focused on path planning for agricultural equipment, and task/cost optimisation.
