evokeAg 2024

For February, evokeAG was the word of the month, with CEI:AgER participating for the first time in the premier agrifood and agritech innovation event. EvokeAG is held annually, showcasing the latest news, innovation, and developments from farmers, startups, scientists, and business leaders in agrifood tech in the Oceania region. This year, the event was held in Perth, with CEI:AgER jumping on the opportunity to host a stall representing UWA and displaying the Centre’s newest research, inventions, and developments for the wider interstate and international community.

The Centre was fully immersed in everything evokeAg for the week with several PhD candidates and final year project students volunteering with merch packing, wayfinding, and assisting with registrations for the event, and all team members helping to man the CEI:AgER/UWA stall. The Centre’s agriculture focal point Dr Wesley Moss attended evokeAg once during his PhD and has since been a keen supporter of the event. “Attending the first-ever evokeAg in 2020, I remember leaving extremely excited by the enthusiasm and innovation around agrifoodtech in our region. I could see this as being a perfect event for the Centre to showcase our research. It was fantastic to host from WA and have such a strong Centre presence.”

With physical targeted tillage (the Weed Chipper and novel in-crop provisional patented tech) and Seed Flamer units, along with Discrete-Element-Modelling and 3D models proudly up for display, the stall attracted a steady stream of traffic from farmers, OEMs, venture capitalists, researchers, and students. Discussions about the current projects, future ideas, and the inventions on display, provided a great opportunity for information sharing with different people and communities outside of the Centre’s usual trajectory.

Director A/Prof Andrew Guzzomi: “With agriculture playing such a large part of the WA economy and Australian farmers and the wider industry considered at the vanguard of innovation, it was fantastic for evokeAG to be held in Perth. It provided the ideal networking and showcasing opportunity for all those present and reiterated just how exciting it is to be part of this industry which is critical to sustainably feeding the growing population.”

The Centre thanks and congratulates the evokeAG team and AgriFutures for putting together a professional and informative event full of interesting talks, panel-discussions, and access to witness the latest in the Ag startup world. CEI:AgER is also grateful to the UWA and the Institute of Agriculture for assisting with securing a UWA display at evokeAG.
