Assisting the Next Generation of Engineers

Dr Guzzomi and a student inspect the winning design.

On Thursday 23 June, CEI:AgER’s Dr Carlo Peressini and Dr Andrew Guzzomi volunteered their time to work with school students at the Perth Science and Engineering Challenge at Claremont Showgrounds. The Science and Engineering Challenge is a day-long ‘design and build’ competition designed to provide 8 teams of high school students with a positive experience of science and engineering. This STEM outreach program, run by Rotary, sees approximately 1400 Year 10 students from 40 schools across Perth competing in the week-long event. The aim of the program is all about encouraging students to build their futures in Science and Engineering. Dr Peressini and Dr Guzzomi were very impressed with the quality of the all-girls winning teams’ engineering skills on the day.

Dr Peressini supervises groups of students working on their designs.
